Stop Sitting!!!! Do you have a desk job? Do you or someone you know suffer with back pain? Sitting for long periods of time has direct links to back and hip pain. Take my client Kirsty for example, she was having chronic back pain at least once a fortnight, sometimes more often. After talking to myself and the coaches at @fodrelentlessgym, we found she had tight hip flexors from sitting all day. After becoming more mobile in general and stretching specific areas, she has not had any issues for over 2 months. ‘I used to get pain down the one side of my back very frequently, but since exercising and stretching I have had zero issues’ Kirsty Beavis, 2017. In a world that is sitting down way too much, why not be one of the people to start moving just a little bit more. Even if that is 2-3 times a week, whether that is going for a long walk on a Sunday afternoon, doing something with a bit more intensity at the gym like attending classes, personal training sessions or following a program that is specific to your needs. Every little helps. ‘An Australia study conducted in 2008 reports that every hour of television watched after age 25 reduces the viewer’s life expectancy by 21.8 minutes. By comparison, smoking a single cigarette reduces life expectancy by 11 minutes. Prone leg lifts, heel beats and circles. Great little set of moves to open the hips and fire up the glutes. Draw in abs and stabilise the pelvic so all the ‘give’ is in the hips not the lower back. Lengthen through the neck, and gently press down into the ring to connect shoulders to maintain shoulder stability.

#Repost @mickfanningphysio ・・・ A Must Do Glute Exercise 💪💪💪 ***SINGLE-LEG HIP THRUST*** If you want to boost your squat and deadlift and improve your running and jumping form, then you must add the Single-Leg Hip Thrust to your routine. Common Mistakes (1) Hyperextending your lower back This is a fancy way of saying “arching your lower back.“ By arching your lower back to produce the lift off the ground it makes it way harder to use your glutes. So when performing you want to make sure your back is flat (“neutral”) by decreasing the arch, by rocking your pelvis back and bringing your ribs down and in ("posterior pelvis tilt"). (2) Not driving up through your heels When you drive through your toes instead of your heels, it’s pretty much impossible to use your glutes which is why many people end up feeling the single-leg hip thrust in their knees and/or quads.To prevent this and to make sure you’re using your glutes properly, "drive up by pushing through your heels". Some people like to left their toes off the floor, to force their weight onto their heels. Work high reps, 15 reps X 2/3 sets Progress by adding weight in the form of a bar or dumbell across the waist. So many of you chose #wheelpose for your #ChooseYourResolution #backbend pose to work on, so I wanted to share some of my favorite warm ups with you! . 1.) #leighsdoorwayshoulderstretch is fantastic and honestly it’s a game changer if you can remember to do it daily. . 2.) #PuppyPose is my daily in the shower stretch and is another game changer if practiced regularly. . 3.) If you don’t have a #yogawheel, get one. It’s the single best #yogaprop I’ve ever invested in and has done more for my backbend practice and spinal health than I can express to you. Code Leighemily will get you 10 bucks off a @yogaprowheel or you can sign up to be an ambassador yourself. But all the wheels are good...doesn’t matter what brand. . 4.) #hipflexorstretch is soooooo important for your wheel pose practice. Don’t skip it!!! Spend 10 breaths on each side...at your edge. You are looking for stretch in quad and hip flexor....NOT pain in your knee. Back off if you feel pain. Use towels for comfort. . 5.) Be good to your wrists. Mine hurt, so I found if I put blocks at an angle between the floor and wall, then my wrists don’t have to bend as much. You can do this without a baseboard to prop them on, you just have to be careful...use a sticky mat. Work towards kissing the wall...pretend it’s your long lost Lover you haven’t seen in forever...😘🤣 . Do this whole routine as often as you can...and enjoy the rush as your back/chest starts opening, little by little, but never push through real pain. You can tell the difference between nudging at your edge and real pain that tells you injury is imminent. Be smart and listen to your body. . If I can do this, YOU can do this! I’ve had surgery on my right shoulder for a torn labrum, I’ve fractured two different vertebrae, and I have scoliosis. No excuses! You’ve got this! .
