I’m so excited for tomorrow’s Day One of #ChooseYourResolution! . Have you been inspired by all the #transformationtuesday pics going around? Well it’s time to make your own “before pics!” Join us!!! . Day one is any standing balance pose, so of course I had to choose #dancerpose with a #flipgrip as it’s been a goal pose of mine forever!! . One day I will do it with ease, but for now it’s still a struggle. I have actually touched my foot before and even one time got there without a strap, but my body doesn’t remember...🤣🤷‍♀️ For now, today, this is where my #journeytoflipgripdancer is. . So what’s my plan for progress? Well, I’ve been trying to do a #dailydancer this month with @allykborn and I try to do #juevesdancingshiva on Thursday’s with @yogayely, but I’m not always consistent...cuz it’s so dang hard! But guess what...? I can practice it every day gently...I don’t have to go to a crazy difficult edge. I just need to practice to my gentle comfort edge more often. That’s where the magic is. This is my gentle comfort edge today, and this was easy to practice. So let’s see what my gentle comfort edge looks like in a year from now... 👏👏👏 . Ah, yes, that is exactly what I want to work on - taking my comfortable edge further as there will be days when my body will feel insanely flexible and strong, but it is for the everyday transformation that I want to work on 😻 As I want my mind to be at its best every single day too ❤

So many of you chose #wheelpose for your #ChooseYourResolution #backbend pose to work on, so I wanted to share some of my favorite warm ups with you! . 1.) #leighsdoorwayshoulderstretch is fantastic and honestly it’s a game changer if you can remember to do it daily. . 2.) #PuppyPose is my daily in the shower stretch and is another game changer if practiced regularly. . 3.) If you don’t have a #yogawheel, get one. It’s the single best #yogaprop I’ve ever invested in and has done more for my backbend practice and spinal health than I can express to you. Code Leighemily will get you 10 bucks off a @yogaprowheel or you can sign up to be an ambassador yourself. But all the wheels are good...doesn’t matter what brand. . 4.) #hipflexorstretch is soooooo important for your wheel pose practice. Don’t skip it!!! Spend 10 breaths on each side...at your edge. You are looking for stretch in quad and hip flexor....NOT pain in your knee. Back off if you feel pain. Use towels for comfort. . 5.) Be good to your wrists. Mine hurt, so I found if I put blocks at an angle between the floor and wall, then my wrists don’t have to bend as much. You can do this without a baseboard to prop them on, you just have to be careful...use a sticky mat. Work towards kissing the wall...pretend it’s your long lost Lover you haven’t seen in forever...😘🤣 . Do this whole routine as often as you can...and enjoy the rush as your back/chest starts opening, little by little, but never push through real pain. You can tell the difference between nudging at your edge and real pain that tells you injury is imminent. Be smart and listen to your body. . If I can do this, YOU can do this! I’ve had surgery on my right shoulder for a torn labrum, I’ve fractured two different vertebrae, and I have scoliosis. No excuses! You’ve got this! . #ChooseYourResolution Day 6 is any #inversion I’ve decided to get that #pincha straddle press dialed! . I have split press and puppy press pretty regularly, but straddle press is another story. I did it once a few weeks ago so I know it’s close...it’s just going to take consistent practice. But for now I need more strength! . So at the very minimum, I vow to work on it every #forearmfriday. Who else is with me?! . I’ve shared my warm up here and several attempts. The key for me is to get my shoulders nice and open and fired up, as well as my core. Toe taps work to fire up the core even if you just do them one foot at a time. Give it a try if you never have!💖. . Loving all your Resolution poses and other profound thoughts you all are sharing! #ChooseYourResolution Day 5 is any #armbalance and duh, I chose #crowpose! . If you’ve followed along on my journey for a while, you’ve probably seen me post a #longcrowhold2017 with the #crowfessionals. We are simply a group of yogis who have committed to doing a weekly crow hold to build up our strength to one day be able to float up to Handstand. . At one point I could hold it for two minutes, but with my finicky left wrist, I’ve backed off of my arm balance practice...that is until I recently discovered that I have no pain using #parallettes! So now, it’s time for me to ramp up my practice again!! . You’re all welcome to join in! Simply hold a crow pose for as long as you comfortably can and post it on Sundays with the two hashtags: crowfessionals and longcrowhold2017. (We will change it to 2018 on the 1st) With bent arms, it’s easier to hold longer and with straight arms it’s harder...so don’t get fixated on the time, just make sure you work hard. You choose what you’d like to work, #bakasana or #kakasana, or both. I’ll share a video soon of how to work towards the press up to handstand too. . When I do outdoor yoga in Alaska, the only audience I ever have is the odd mountain🐐goat or marmot...😂 . But here in Hawaii, it’s a little more challenging to find a quiet spot all to myself. I’ll put some of this mornings photo bombs in my stories for your amusement...😂 . But regardless of how many people walked by, I was really focused and managed to have an incredible 2 hour practice.
