#ChooseYourResolution Day 2 is any #backbend and I chose my nemesis pose, #chinstand!😱😅 . Have you been inspired by all the #transformationtuesday pics going around? Well it’s time to make your own “before pics!” Join us!!! Tomorrow is only Day 2, so you have plenty of time to catch up! . I am not one of those naturally bendy babes AT ALL! So this one is way out of my comfort zone...in fact I’ve only ever done it like 3 times for challenges. But I know that with practice, patience and perseverance, anything’s possible. _ So here I go, I’ll be practicing this once per week with my babes @elena_miss_yoga @karina_look_for_beauty and @natascha_yoga for #chinnychestythursday, and we’ll see what happens! . If you’re new to this pose like I am, please be careful! I recommend you don’t even try it unless your chest is all the way on the floor in a straight leg puppy pose (you can check out yesterday’s video for a demo of that.) I am using blocks under each shoulder with a space in the middle for my chest to open into. At the very end of my video you can see I tried it without blocks and very quickly knew I wasn’t ready for it. Progress happens with daily practice, not with pushing past your edge. Getting all splitsy on this fine day! . I’ve noticed a lot of you have chosen #centersplits for your #hipopener for #ChooseYourResolution so I wanted to share how I’ve been working on mine. . First of all, get rid of your couch! Or sit in front of it if that won’t go over well with your family...😂. Get yourself a cozy space on the floor with a nice soft rug and work on your Instagram posts while seated in #wideleggedforwardfold. Since I do a lot of Instagraming, so I am stretching a lot!☺️😅 . The other awesome stretch that I added to my daily routine is #frogpose. About 3 years ago, maybe longer, I started doing it for 5 minutes every evening. It was NOT enjoyable at first, but it has become so and my hips actually crave it now. . Be careful coming out of any long hold...use your hands to help move your legs and move slowly. . That’s it! And since I’ve been getting a lot of questions and new followers, I figured I’d introduce myself!👋 . First off, Welcome! I’m glad you’re here! . My name is Leigh, pronounced Lee. . I mostly share my yoga🧘‍♀️journey on these squares, but also a little bit of my life as a helicopter pilot.🚁👩‍✈️ . I live and work in Valdez, Alaska, during the summer months as the Chief Pilot for a small helicopter company called @vshelicopters. I fly every mission you can possibly imagine, and many that you can’t imagine too.😂🚁 . I share as much of it as I can on my IG stories, but mostly I keep my hands on the controls...😅 I’ll try to upload a few videos from this past summer to give you a better idea, but it’s mostly remote construction, communication tower site maintenance, mineral exploration, glacier tours and an occasional rescue. . I’m always wearing yoga pants under my flight gear, just in case I get an opportunity for some mountain top Yoga!🏔 . I fly a lot in the summer and work 14 hour days. I also do all the hiring and training of the pilots and office staff. And yes, I’m hiring! I need an AS350B2 pilot with heli ski experience...is that you?😂 Does anyone know what that is?🚁 . This pic is from a training flight over the #ColumbiaGlacier, a magical place that everyone should experience before it’s gone...and it is receding rapidly!!! . In the winter months, I come home to the Big Island of Hawaii...and play. I do yoga, lots of it. I freedive, explore, take pics, and just soak up the tropical sunshine. I work my ass off in the summer with very few days off, so I treat winter like it’s one long weekend. And it’s very hard to leave...💙 . #ChooseYourResolution Day 5 is any #armbalance and duh, I chose #crowpose! . If you’ve followed along on my journey for a while, you’ve probably seen me post a #longcrowhold2017 with the #crowfessionals. We are simply a group of yogis who have committed to doing a weekly crow hold to build up our strength to one day be able to float up to Handstand. . At one point I could hold it for two minutes, but with my finicky left wrist, I’ve backed off of my arm balance practice...that is until I recently discovered that I have no pain using #parallettes! So now, it’s time for me to ramp up my practice again!! . You’re all welcome to join in! Simply hold a crow pose for as long as you comfortably can and post it on Sundays with the two hashtags: crowfessionals and longcrowhold2017. (We will change it to 2018 on the 1st) With bent arms, it’s easier to hold longer and with straight arms it’s harder...so don’t get fixated on the time, just make sure you work hard. You choose what you’d like to work, #bakasana or #kakasana, or both. I’ll share a video soon of how to work towards the press up to handstand too. . #ChooseYourResolution Day 6 is any #inversion I’ve decided to get that #pincha straddle press dialed! . I have split press and puppy press pretty regularly, but straddle press is another story. I did it once a few weeks ago so I know it’s close...it’s just going to take consistent practice. But for now I need more strength! . So at the very minimum, I vow to work on it every #forearmfriday. Who else is with me?! . I’ve shared my warm up here and several attempts. The key for me is to get my shoulders nice and open and fired up, as well as my core. Toe taps work to fire up the core even if you just do them one foot at a time. Give it a try if you never have!💖. . Loving all your Resolution poses and other profound thoughts you all are sharing! #ChooseYourResolution Day 4 is any #hipopener and of course I have to go with #splits! . I think I’ve been deeper in splits before, but my hip flexors are temperamental and if I’m not actively working on them, they tighten right back up. . Believe it or not, center split is easier for me than front splits. Folding forward in this pose feels good to me, but to sit straight up like I’m showing here, is a challenge. . So my goal with splits is to be able to sit straight up with ease. I know it looks close...but the key here is “with ease,” so I am committing to a 5 minute splits hold on each side...every evening. That’s 10 minuets a day...I can do that...right?! Care to join me? Let’s see what magic consistency will bring us! #5minutesplitshold .
