#ChooseYourResolution Day 6 is any #inversion I’ve decided to get that #pincha straddle press dialed! . I have split press and puppy press pretty regularly, but straddle press is another story. I did it once a few weeks ago so I know it’s close...it’s just going to take consistent practice. But for now I need more strength! . So at the very minimum, I vow to work on it every #forearmfriday. Who else is with me?! . I’ve shared my warm up here and several attempts. The key for me is to get my shoulders nice and open and fired up, as well as my core. @mosey_golightly I guess it was a three leg dog swirl. Which is good because sometimes I like to figure out the sanskrit for a thing and well...dolphins have no legs so that was gonna get a lil tricky!!

So many of you chose #wheelpose for your #ChooseYourResolution #backbend pose to work on, so I wanted to share some of my favorite warm ups with you! . 1.) #leighsdoorwayshoulderstretch is fantastic and honestly it’s a game changer if you can remember to do it daily. . 2.) #PuppyPose is my daily in the shower stretch and is another game changer if practiced regularly. . 3.) If you don’t have a #yogawheel, get one. It’s the single best #yogaprop I’ve ever invested in and has done more for my backbend practice and spinal health than I can express to you. Code Leighemily will get you 10 bucks off a @yogaprowheel or you can sign up to be an ambassador yourself. But all the wheels are good...doesn’t matter what brand. . 4.) #hipflexorstretch is soooooo important for your wheel pose practice. Don’t skip it!!! Spend 10 breaths on each side...at your edge. You are looking for stretch in quad and hip flexor....NOT pain in your knee. Back off if you feel pain. Use towels for comfort. . 5.) Be good to your wrists. Mine hurt, so I found if I put blocks at an angle between the floor and wall, then my wrists don’t have to bend as much. You can do this without a baseboard to prop them on, you just have to be careful...use a sticky mat. Work towards kissing the wall...pretend it’s your long lost Lover you haven’t seen in forever...😘🤣 . Do this whole routine as often as you can...and enjoy the rush as your back/chest starts opening, little by little, but never push through real pain. You can tell the difference between nudging at your edge and real pain that tells you injury is imminent. Be smart and listen to your body. . If I can do this, YOU can do this! I’ve had surgery on my right shoulder for a torn labrum, I’ve fractured two different vertebrae, and I have scoliosis. No excuses! You’ve got this! . And since I’ve been getting a lot of questions and new followers, I figured I’d introduce myself!👋 . First off, Welcome! I’m glad you’re here! . My name is Leigh, pronounced Lee. . I mostly share my yoga🧘‍♀️journey on these squares, but also a little bit of my life as a helicopter pilot.🚁👩‍✈️ . I live and work in Valdez, Alaska, during the summer months as the Chief Pilot for a small helicopter company called @vshelicopters. I fly every mission you can possibly imagine, and many that you can’t imagine too.😂🚁 . I share as much of it as I can on my IG stories, but mostly I keep my hands on the controls...😅 I’ll try to upload a few videos from this past summer to give you a better idea, but it’s mostly remote construction, communication tower site maintenance, mineral exploration, glacier tours and an occasional rescue. . I’m always wearing yoga pants under my flight gear, just in case I get an opportunity for some mountain top Yoga!🏔 . I fly a lot in the summer and work 14 hour days. I also do all the hiring and training of the pilots and office staff. And yes, I’m hiring! I need an AS350B2 pilot with heli ski experience...is that you?😂 Does anyone know what that is?🚁 . This pic is from a training flight over the #ColumbiaGlacier, a magical place that everyone should experience before it’s gone...and it is receding rapidly!!! . In the winter months, I come home to the Big Island of Hawaii...and play. I do yoga, lots of it. I freedive, explore, take pics, and just soak up the tropical sunshine. I work my ass off in the summer with very few days off, so I treat winter like it’s one long weekend. And it’s very hard to leave...💙 . Getting all splitsy on this fine day! . I’ve noticed a lot of you have chosen #centersplits for your #hipopener for #ChooseYourResolution so I wanted to share how I’ve been working on mine. . First of all, get rid of your couch! Or sit in front of it if that won’t go over well with your family...😂. Get yourself a cozy space on the floor with a nice soft rug and work on your Instagram posts while seated in #wideleggedforwardfold. Since I do a lot of Instagraming, so I am stretching a lot!☺️😅 . The other awesome stretch that I added to my daily routine is #frogpose. About 3 years ago, maybe longer, I started doing it for 5 minutes every evening. It was NOT enjoyable at first, but it has become so and my hips actually crave it now. . Be careful coming out of any long hold...use your hands to help move your legs and move slowly. . That’s it! #ChooseYourResolution Day 3 is any #forwardfold and I got tricky here and went with #standingsplits. . I’m loving seeing all your before pics!!! Make sure your friends know about this challenge too! It’s not too late to join and it’s sooooo helpful to have friends with similar yoga goals to work on and talk about things together. Let’s cheer each other on!!! That’s what this magical #igyogafam is all about!! . Forward folds actually come pretty easily for me so I wanted to choose a pose that I’d really like to improve...it’s just such a pretty one when it’s straight up! . My plan is to continue practicing the Ashtanga primary series at least once per week as it focuses a lot on forward folds. I’m also doing hot yoga several times a week which really gets me working hard to one day be able to kiss my toes in this pose.
